How to go back in time?

There is no technology today that enables someone to go back in time. I personally do not believe in the idea of time travel because I can't convince myself that whatever we do are being repeated infinitely somewhere on the 4th dimension.

However, it seems possible to witness/see things from the past. But, for that, we need two technologies which aren't yet available and there may be some loopholes.

  1. The capability of moving faster than light
  2. A really really powerful image sensor.

So the Idea is you get on your faster-than-light-spaceship-thingy and put on the badass image sensor and start moving faster than light towards space. And as soon as you start you would come across light rays which have the information of what happened before and you should be seeing things which had already happened.

Explanation: Assuming the light hits an object and then is reflected completely and avoids all kinds of attenuation by atmosphere and continues to travel straight towards deep space. So the images of what happened before is moving with the light itself. As you go past them, you can see them.

Problem is that you would see it backwards so a football (soccer) match would appear to be one where the point is to prevent the nets from throwing the ball inside the field.

Now, the loopholes/assumptions :

  1. I am completely ignoring refraction or absorption of light and assuming that it goes straight out in space and keeps going on. Well in my defense, I am an Engineer and at school, once my professor solved a problem half way and got x=7.4 but assumed that x = -0.3 and continued so, this might as well work.

  2. Not that it should concern you, but on your way you might convert into energy because you are moving faster than light, hence screwing with Einstein's theory. But what the heck, you get a chance to witness the past.
